A Professional Touch for your Art Collections
When framing an art piece or a photo, how do you decide the best type of glass suitable for your item? Glazing, or frame glass, is an often overlooked step in framing because most people focus on the mat and frame. Choosing the right glazing can dramatically impact how your art is displayed and preserved.
Art Glass mounting is an apt alternative that reduces unwanted glare and allows for a more excellent transmission of light that only strengthens the vibrancy of the artwork in the viewer’s eyes. It can be fabricated even with other glazing substances. Framing with Art glass enhances every detail in an art or craft piece while offering protection from harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause discoloration, peeling, and other wear and tear. They can also protect the artwork from environmental pollutants, and this type of mounting can increase the artwork’s life to a greater extent.
An Art Glass is a perfect choice to provide a professional touch to the framed work with a high level of protection.
Why Artglass?
Artglass is a type of Ultraviolet (UV)-protected glass that reflects or absorbs the UV spectrum. These glasses have a special coating that can protect your art from UV damage up to 92%. A drawback to this coating is that it slightly changes the color of the artwork. Art glass protects the artwork against fading, but the increased cost can be a barrier.
An Artglass is manufactured for high-end applications like Aerospace, but it is so environmentally friendly that it is used in artwork framing and high-quality electronic displays. Different art glasses offer various levels of reflection with UV Protection, and you can make choices depending on the work you have to display. An essential advantage of art glass is that it can also be used for outdoor applications. This glass can be used in many mediums, including graphics, watercolors, photographs, archival documents, collectibles, and other valuables.
How Qube Art helps you select the Right Framing Glass for Clarity and Protection
Art glasses can reduce unwanted residual reflections up to eight times better than regular glass. They can increase the transmission of light to the artwork, thus enhancing the true and undistorted colors of the artwork on view. This indeed improves the clarity of the piece to a great extent.
Art glass usually has neutral and uniform reflected colors, which remain stable under various viewing angles. Art Glasses can process the same as ordinary glass, even in cutting and gluing. But the factor to be highlighted is that the coating of art glass is long-lasting and exhibits high-performance durability. The coating is applied on both sides of the glass to ensure supreme clarity, with one side being additionally coated with an absorbent UV filter. This enhances the conservation grade of the glass. When kept in good lighting conditions, the frames can make the glass invisible and work best at a 45-degree angle- either side of the picture or straight ahead.
These glasses can be easily cleaned with a microfiber cloth, glass cleaner, or another appropriate cleaning solution. They are scratch-resistant, which makes them easy to use for various framing purposes. But we cannot avoid the chances of scratches, so these glasses must be handled and cleaned with extreme care.
The UV Protection aspect of the art glass is a highlighting point, as it can filter almost 97% of harmful UV Rays. We cannot assure that 100% protection will be implied, but it significantly reduces the artwork’s deterioration.
How Art Glass Framing is done at QUBE Art Gallery:
At Qube Art Gallery, we strive to deliver you resources that cater to your every artistic desire. We ensure our processes are standardized and customizable to the user’s requirements without compromising quality.
The works done on paper are given special care before art glass mounting to ensure air circulation and movement. Pastels and chalk drawings are held at least 5 mm from the glass. The Glazing is free from blemishes and is cut in an appropriate size concerning the frame. For items to be hung outdoors, we prefer the acrylic glazing process for maximum results. We do not use any abrasives or creams for cleaning and use spirit-based cleaners with clean, lint-free cloth wipes.
Preservation framing is essential to maintain the life of your photos and artwork. Choosing the right glazing is critical, and framing professionals can advise you on which type to choose. Ultimately, it is very important and mandatory to protect your art to ensure it doesn’t become discolored or faded over time.
