How Do I Frame a Poster Without Damaging It?
Posters can be valuable for many reasons. They may be limited edition prints, movie posters, travel memories, event posters, or artwork you want to keep for years. But simply placing a poster inside a frame is not always the best way to protect it.
The right poster framing method can help prevent bending, creasing, fading, and unnecessary damage while giving the poster a clean, finished display.
If you are looking for poster framing Dubai or poster framing Abu Dhabi, here are some important things to consider.
Start With the Right Size and Frame
A poster should fit the frame properly without being forced, folded, trimmed, or tightly compressed.
A custom frame can be created according to the exact dimensions of your poster. This is particularly useful for:
• Oversized posters
• Limited edition prints
• Vintage posters
• Movie posters
• Art posters
• Unusual poster sizes
At Qube Art Gallery, custom framing is designed around the individual artwork or item rather than relying only on standard frame sizes.
Keep the Poster Away From the Glass
Direct contact between the poster and glazing can create problems, especially when moisture or condensation is present.
A suitable mount or spacing system can create a small gap between the poster and the glass. This helps improve protection while also giving the framed poster a more professional appearance.
Qube Art Gallery offers professional mounting and matting using acid free mounting boards, with mounting designed to help keep artwork flat and away from the glass.
Avoid Permanent Adhesives
One of the biggest mistakes when framing a poster is permanently sticking it to a backing board.
Strong adhesives can make future removal difficult and may damage the poster. For valuable or collectible posters, the framing method should allow the artwork to be removed or handled with minimal risk where appropriate.
For posters that require long term preservation, conservation framing can be considered. Qube Art Gallery uses archival materials and reversible mounting techniques for conservation framing.
Choose the Right Glass for Your Poster
The glazing you choose can affect both the appearance and protection of your poster.
Depending on where the poster will be displayed, you can consider:
• Standard glazing for general display
• UV protective glazing for added protection from light
• Anti reflective Art Glass for clearer viewing
• Museum grade glazing for valuable or collectible pieces
Qube Art Gallery offers different glazing options, including Art Glass AR 70, UV 99, and AR 99, along with museum quality and conservation framing options.
Protect Posters From Light and Heat
Even a professionally framed poster can be affected by its display environment.
Try to avoid placing valuable posters directly opposite strong sunlight or in areas exposed to excessive heat and humidity.
For posters that are particularly important or collectible, discuss the display location with a professional framer so the frame, glazing, mounting, and materials can be selected accordingly.
Make Your Poster Look Like Artwork
Poster framing does not have to be a basic frame and glass combination.
A custom framing solution can include:
• Custom mount sizes
• Different frame profiles
• Multiple mount colours
• Museum style presentation
• Anti reflective glazing
• Custom dimensions
This allows the poster to become part of the interior design while maintaining its original character.
